If I can’t produce commercials, I might as well produce some good.
In February 2020, things took a turn for the strange and terrible when Covid-19 decided to make a pit stop in the US, leaving me unemployed, and my sister (A PA at NYU Langone’s ER) at the helm of a health crisis she could have never imagined seeing in our lifetime.
She felt hopeless and alone. I felt hopeless and useless. Sitting at my parents house stuck in quarantine, I wracked my brain about how I could be of use or at least send support from the socially distant safety of my couch. Thus, @CovidERSupporters was born.
I created a few simple flyers to solicit meal donations to support our #HealthCareHeroes and before I knew it, influencers and celebrities started sharing and posting about my campaign. In just a few days, I had over $10,000 to spend at local restaurants, and had expanded to help hospitals throughout the US.
As more local groups were starting to send meals to the front line, I decided to extend my program to include the skincare problem that was quickly developing in the health care communities. Navigating the bureaucracy of the hospital systems is a nightmare, but I had hacked the system and was able to create a process that got donations directly to those at the front lines, rather than sitting in central processing never to be seen again. I tapped into some of the world’s top independent brands to donate products to hospitals throughout the US. Within a few weeks had dozens of luxury brands sending hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of products to my contacts all over the country. PR companies and brands themselves started reaching out to collaborate.
With the help of over 35 major brands and hundreds of donors, @CovidErSupporters has been able to provide meals and skin care relief to thousands of doctors, nurses, EMTs, PAs, transport crews and administrative staff at over 20 hospitals.
I look forward to the day that @CovidERSupporters is no longer needed, but in the meantime I’ll be connecting brands, local businesses and everyday people to those fighting on the front lines.
